The birth of placenta encapsulation at Four Trimesters - almost two decades ago
It was nearly two decades ago that I began to pioneer the art and practice of placenta encapsulation in Singapore, answering the growing call from my doula clients seeking natural ways to support their postpartum recovery. While the concept of consuming placenta has deep roots in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the practice started becoming popular globally, As western cultures began embracing Eastern philosophies of healing and wellness. This re-emergence of ancient traditions gave rise to a demand for trustworthy placenta encapsulation services, and it did not really exist for people here in Singapore.
Many of my birth doula clients kept asking me if we provided placenta encapsulation. The only places that seemed to offer the service nack then was TCM places but everyone expressed hesitation about entrusting their placentas to TCM medical halls, fearing they wouldn’t get their entire placenta back due to its well-documented benefits and being such a rare commodity, it was suspected that placenta’s would and had been reported as going missing.
The turning point personally for me came after one husband shared his traumatic experience of attempting to encapsulate his wife’s placenta himself for their first baby. His story of trial, error, and frustration stayed with me, and I realized there was a need for a reliable, professional placenta encapsulation service mainly for my birth doula clients. So I decided to give it a go!
Never doing things in halves, I sought out the expertise of Jenny West, a midwife and author of The Natural Healing Power of the Placenta. Under her personal guidance, I learned the intricate process of placenta encapsulation, from steaming and dehydrating to grinding and encapsulating. Armed with knowledge and the passion to serve women in their postpartum journey, I encapsulated my very first placenta for Dr. Mythili’s first child. Dr. Mythili, the owner of Mother and Child and a former President of the Breastfeeding Mothers Support Group. The rest is history!!!
From that moment on, Four Trimesters became a trusted name in placenta encapsulation. Over the past decades, we have encapsulated thousand’s of placentas right here in Singapore, earning the trust of countless mothers and families. What started as a small service born out of necessity has grown into a cornerstone of our commitment to supporting mothers through their postpartum journey.
Today, placenta encapsulation at Four Trimesters is not just about the capsules themselves; it’s about empowering mothers with a sense of control over their recovery, honoring the wisdom of ancient traditions, and blending it with modern, safe practices. It’s a legacy of care and trust—one placenta, one mother, and one story at a time.
