Our team of doula’s will empower you to have your best birth possible - easy, short, and relaxed - regardless of the outcome, welcoming your baby into the world gently, blissfully to carry these beautiful and positive memories for your whole family through a lifetime.

How can a Four Trimesters Doula support us in our pregnancy and birth?

Our doula’s are trained Professional Labor Assistant’s who understand the emotional and physical support that both you and your birth partner are needing during pregnancy, birth, postpartum and are there to provide continuous support and care for ALL of you throughout the entire experience. They truly get to know your needs, wants and desires for the birth that you desire and will guide yourself and your birth partner through the minefield of choices and outcomes both before and throughout the entire experience. While some people are told what to do, you will be empowered with knowledge to make the choices based on your desired outcome, having a Four Trimesters doula there to support you every step of the way.

Did you know that statistics have shown that women supported by a doula during labor have been shown to have?

  • 25% shorter labor
  • 60% reduction in epidural requests
  • 30% reduction in analgesia use
  • 40% reduction in forceps delivery

*From Mothering the Mother: How a Doula can help you have a shorter, easier and healthier birth by Marshall H. Klaus (Perseus Press, 1993)

Why? Simply put, you are not leaving things to chance, but have a trusted and reliable source who truly understand what you want, why you want it and how as a team you can create your ultimate desire and outcome.

Your Four Trimesters Doula’s commitment to you:

Some Doula’s work as an individual to support you throughout your experience but at Four Trimesters you have a whole team of doulas and support behind you.Our team of doulas work closely together and are in communication at all times, working with our trainers, supporting you through pregnancy, labour & birth, and early postpartum. We go the extra mile to help you!

Imagine for a moment the real life birth experience from one of our past and loved Four Trimesters clients. It was a birth that took 50 hours and in order to support the parents through the entire experience, 4 of our team of doulas all supported each other and the parents, successfully guiding the mother to her ultimate wish in avoiding a cesarean and having the birth she desired.

We strive to be as reliable and available as possible and we always assign a secondary doula to the family to make sure the care is continuous.  We have various doulas with specific expertise such as baby wearing specialists and chiropractors. We hold a complimentary weekly Parents Circle Support Group where you can learn from our doulas and guest speakers as well as connect with other parents who are going through similar relatable experiences as you. Not too mention the connections and friendships formed in this space. We are constantly training and learning from the best in the world to improve maternity care for the women with work with. We are always available to you through our sturdy communication platforms and office support - you will never feel like you’ve been left alone.

Most importantly, choosing Four Trimesters means choosing the right support for you. You are our priority, and your choices are important to us. Our ultimate goal is to empower you to have a positive birth experience, specific to what you need and want. We help you to get rid of the noise and stress surrounding birth so your body can do what it is innately designed to do when giving birth. Our aim is to help you feel confident and calm throughout, so when your baby is finally in your arms you have no concern other than bonding with your precious little one. Our warm and caring team is ready to support you step-by-step as you journey towards motherhood.

What to expect when you engage Doula services?

Prenatal Sessions:

Prenatal sessions are held in the comfort of your own home, unless preferred otherwise, and would take about 2 hours each time.

During the first prenatal session, your Doula will discuss the role & scope of a Doula and how we are going to work together; find out your needs for the pregnancy, birth and postpartum; go through the birth plan; and answer any other questions you may have.

During the second prenatal session, your Doula will discuss the common signs of early labor and when and how to contact her; when to go to the hospital and what to expect when at the hospital; your hospital bag; demonstrate hand-expression of the breasts and answer any other questions that you may have.

Birth Support:

You will notify your primary Doula when you are in labor and allow her at least an hour to get to you from the time you have requested for her to be with you both. Your primary Doula will be with you throughout labor and birth and she will stay to help you with the baby’s first feed. The secondary Doula will take over if the primary Doula is not available, or if the birth is long and she needs a rest.

Postnatal Visits:

The first postnatal visit is done a day after the birth to ensure that the baby is breastfeeding well, as well as to debrief the birth. Assuming that all goes well from the first postnatal visit to the second postnatal visit, the second postnatal is done when the milk comes in between day 3-5 and the last postnatal visit will be done at the end of the first week or into the second week.

Please note that all postnatal visits are spontaneous based on how both parents and baby are doing, so sometimes the visits take place on consecutive days instead of being spaced apart, depending on the situation. Additional visits are charged at $180 per visit. We will also take the weight of the baby using our portable scale at every visit.

– Continuous support during pregnancy, birth, and early postpartum via email/ phone/ Whatsapp. We set up a Whatsapp group chat between the father, mother and her team of doulas to keep the communication open and flowing. We will close the Whatsapp group within 4 weeks of the mother giving birth.
– Birth Log & Photos: A written birth log
