I ♥ being a Doula because...

supporting and witnessing new parents ease into parenthood
gives me great satisfaction. I believe in “mothering the
mother”; every woman (and man!) deserves all the
support during the postpartum phase. It is important
for new parents to be empowered and feel confident
to overcome any challenges that may arrive with
the bundle of joy.

“A certain darkness is needed to see the stars.” - Osho

When my firstborn arrived, I was overwhelmed in every sense of the word. An experience of joy, happiness, tired, worried, sore with my emotions all over the place! The challenges I faced, especially with breastfeeding truly allowed me to appreciate the importance of equipping oneself with the know-hows on breastfeeding, self-care, baby care and most importantly getting the right postnatal support. Through that darkness I discovered what I was capable of and what I truly needed in these very challenging times.

When the wonderful news of my second pregnancy arrived, I was determined to have the birth and postpartum journey I desired. I attended the Four Trimesters Antenatal Classes and engaged a doula. At times when I couldn't see the light, it was the support and belief from others that allowed me to tap into a belief within myself. A belief that "I CAN and I WILL" pull through these challenges. With the knowledge and the right support, I captured the most wonderful birth and postpartum experience that inspired me to support others to see what's possible for themselves. My story, like a star in the darkness for those that need a trusting support to create the postpartum experience they truly desire to enjoy the beauty and gift of becoming a mother.

Outside of my passion as a postpartum doula, I am a mother of my two beautiful children, two furkids and a tortoise. I enjoy hiking and travelling with my family and friends. And I love animals.

I being a Doula because supporting and witnessing new parents ease into parenthood gives me great satisfaction. I believe in “mothering the mother”; every woman (and man!) deserves all the support during the postpartum phase. It is important for new parents to be empowered and feel confident to overcome any challenges that may arrive with the bundle of joy.

Would recommend her to all new parents!

Having Hui Tze's guidance and support has provided great help for us as new parents and eased our new roles with caring for our baby. Her in-depth knowledge and practical tips on breastfeeding, baby feeding, baby care were really useful to me. Apart from the sharing sessions, she provided in depth recap which was a good reference, and frequently checked in on us to see if we were doing ok and if we had any questions/concerns. Having engaged her as our postpartum doula definitely gave us a better sense of what is to come and we were better prepared. Would recommend her to all new parents! Thanks Hui Tze for making our parenthood journey a pleasant one!

Truly thankful for the support

One of the first questions most often posed to us is “How does it feel being first time parents?” For someone who
knew nothing about childbirth and babies when we first found out we were expecting, I must say it has been a
wonderful experience! We attribute this awesome experience to having the support of our postpartum doula – Hui
Tze.

Here, I really should emphasise that having the support of a postpartum doula is very different from the lactation
consultants (LC) and nurses from the hospital. Our hospital provided a complimentary session with the LC, but the
lady was in such a rush to pour out all the breastfeeding information to me, she failed to notice that baby was
already nursing fine at my breast. The nurses tried to help us too, but most of the time, they were zipping in and
out, and sometimes even dropping comments like "you don't have enough milk". On the other hand, Hui Tze took
the time to observe me and the baby, understood how baby was nursing naturally in the laid-back position, and reassured us that we were doing fine! This re-assurance was a breath of fresh air! Besides breastfeeding, Hui Tze also guided us on ways to soothe our baby, and what to expect during the first few weeks postpartum. That really helped us handle challenges with more confidence.

Now that baby is 5 months old, and we have a bit of time to think back on our childbirth experience, I would say
that there are 2 things that were most important to me for a first time mama. The first was finding the right
gynaecologist who is aligned with your preferences for childbirth (thanks to Four Trimesters Antenatal Classes, we
realised this in time!). The second is to have the support of a postpartum doula, to help keep your sanity as you
figure your way through motherhood. Because for us now, it is the most beautiful experience when my baby peers
up while nursing and smiles at me, with those grateful eyes that seem to say “I love you”. For each of these
moments, we are truly thankful for the support Hui Tze has given through our parenting journey.
